Rt. Rev. Duncan

 

Philip Duncan was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast on Saturday, May 12, 2001. When elected on the Feast of Epiphany, he was the dean and rector of Saint Matthew's Cathedral in Dallas. St. Matthew's is an urban congregation in the inner city of Dallas with 2,100 baptized members and 1,500 communicants.

He was rector of St. John's Church, Clearwater, Florida, from 1972 to 1993 and associate rector of Christ Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey, from 1970 to 1972.

His bachelor's degree in history is from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He received the Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity degrees from General Theological Seminar in New York and the Doctor of Ministry in Evangelism from Virginia Theological Seminary.

In the Diocese of Dallas he has been a deputy and an alternate to General Convention. He is a member of the board of directors of The Children's Foundation of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and the East Dallas Community Organization. He is an author, chaplain and a member of the General Board of Examining Chaplains for the National Church.

He is an associate of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, a religious order for men focusing on spirituality, and a member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

Born December 6, 1944; he has been married to Kathlyn Anne, a registered nurse and school nurse teacher, since 1970. They have two sons, Andrew Gray and Ian James.
