- Stewardship2023 | St. Jude's Episcopal
Stewardship 2023 Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ, What a year 2022 has been. We have slowly moved to what we see as the new normal for St. Jude’s. Our on-line worship service is second to none, what a marvelous job Michelle, Patrick and Tarquin are doing. It doesn’t replace in person worship, but it is a great substitute when we are unable to attend. This year’s theme for stewardship is “Let’s Get in the Boat”. Pastor V’s sermon in mid- July shared with us that both oars (works and faith) must be in the water and move at the same rate to go forward. If one oar pulls stronger than the other you end up going in a circle. St. Jude’s in the past has had difficulty in steering the boat in one direction, but now we have our facility in excellent order and we can focus our oars on faith rather than just works and move forward together. The lay leadership has taken hold and is moving forward with the help of Pastor V. Eucharistic Ministry visitations have started for the shut in’s, our Youth Committee has been extremely active and are ready to call a Children and Youth Minister Facilitator, and we have a new nursery attendant and bookkeeper. Our Search Committee is receiving names and going through the interviewing process to call our new rector. We are moving forward using our time, talent and treasure. Well done!!! This truly has been a significant year for St. Jude’s despite the economic outlook for 2023. Inflation has affected all of us. Please look at the enclosed pamphlet to see our income and expenses for 2022 and our projected budget for 2023. Our Finance Committee is working diligently with our many ministries to develop an effective budget, but we still are expecting a 15% increase in expenses. This includes a Children and Youth Minister Facilitator, funds for our new rector position, and a 5% increase to all staff to help with the effects of inflation. Please bring/mail/ e-mail your 2023 pledge card or submit your pledge online at https://www.stjudes.us/stewardship2023 by Commitment Sunday November 6, 2022. Please keep in mind that the back of the pledge card is just as important as the front. Time and talent are required on this three legged stool of stewardship to make St. Jude’s the best that it can be. Let us all move forward in the boat with both oars in the water making St. Jude’s the best it can be and be Disciples of Christ. Eric Eric W. Kosche, Chair Stewardship Commitment Sunday is November 6, 2022. Please bring your pledge card to church that day and place it in the offering plate or bring/mail it to the church. - I'm New Here | St. Jude's Episcopal
What to Expect It can be intimidating to walk into a church for the first time. That's why when you visit St. Jude's Episcopal church, you will be our respected and welcome guest. You will not be singled out in an embarrassing way, nor asked to stand before the congregation, nor to come forward. You will worship God with us, as one of us. You may have seen the signs in towns across America that say, "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You." Well, we mean it! Whether you are here visiting with friends or family, are new to the area and looking for a church, or simply seek life's deeper meaning, you are welcome at St. Jude's Episcopal Church. We get it. What happens during a service? The framework of all our services is liturgy. This means each service follows a set format, laid down in the Book of Common Prayer. We will also use the Bible and two music books: the Hymnal 1982, and Renew. The good news is that our service bulletin lists out all the prayers, responses, and scriptures during the service. Any hymns that are sung during worship are numbered so you can easily find them in the hymnal. Your service bulletin will guide you to which book we will be using at which time, should you choose to use them, and you should find copies of all these books in the back of the pew in front of you or under your seat. If you can't find one, ask one of our friendly ushers. Our liturgy may be new to you, and we do a lot of standing, kneeling, and sitting. Please feel free to participate as much or little as you like, and don't feel like you have to kneel or stand, especially if you have health concerns. You will not be judged for how much you do or do not participate. However, we hope you will appreciate the active and participatory nature of worship in The Episcopal Church. As you become more comfortable with the service, we hope you will find reassurance and peace in knowing what to expect each week. View an instructed Eucharist service here. We invite all baptized Christians to come forward and partake of the Eucharist. If you would like to partake but have mobility concerns or require a gluten-free wafer, please let an usher know. Come as you are. Although our worship style is traditional, we aren't stuffy. It's Florida, after all! You will see folks wearing suits and folks in shorts and flip flops... and we lean towards the latter. If you arrive a little early, ask an usher to direct you to our Parish Hall so we can offer you hot coffee and fresh donuts. We'd love to meet you. Bringing the kids? As you arrive, one of our friendly ushers will be happy to walk you back to our Sunday School and nursery area. Nursery is open for both services and Sunday School is held during the 10:30 a.m. service. Find out more about our kids' programs. - Stewardship | St. Jude's Episcopal
Dear St. Jude's Family, What a Year!!! Nothing is the same. When are we going to get back to the way things were? Folks, I don’t think we are ever going to get back to the way things were. So to carry this into stewardship here is a new approach. We all know that stewardship is a three legged stool. One leg is time and another is talent and the third is treasure. We at St. Jude’s do time and talent quite well. So we don’t need to spend lots of time on those two. So let’s talk about treasure. Money! Giving back a portion of what God has given us is the Christian thing to do. It is called a tithe of 10%. As we profess to being Christians then giving a portion back to the God should not be a big deal. So why is it a big deal? It is a big deal because you think you are in charge. You are not. God is. It took me years to realize that God has my back and yours too. St. Jude’s has a budget of around $340,000. We have 116 families on our mailing list and an average Sunday attendance is around 100. This includes both in service and on-line since the virus has been with us. Currently our average pledge is just over $3,700. We currently have 72 pledging units. Do the math, if everyone steps up to the plate we could meet our budget for around $9.00 a day. Can we increase the number of pledges? I believe we can. We all start at different points on the highway of stewardship. Some will give more, some less but in the long term we should all be striving to reach that 10% goal. We do time and talent extremely well at St. Jude’s. We are a work in process on that treasure leg of the stool, but I believe the members of of St. Jude's can do it. Enclosed you will see a brochure and pledge card. Please read and fill out the pledge card and either bring it by the office, mail it, or drop it in the collection plate on Sunday October 11. If you would like to submit your pledge card via e-mail, please go to our site: www.stjudes.us/stewardship and complete the cards. Let’s make this the best year yet for St. Jude's. Yours in Christ, Eric W. Kosche Stewardship Chair What does my pledge support? A safe, sacred space where believers gather, form lasting relationships, pray for one another, and experience God's love as we celebrate God and one another. A staff who makes possible compelling worship, parish communications, music, pastoral care, youth programs, and education. Uplifting worship services offering biblical reflection and joy. The preservation and beautification of our worship space, property and grounds. Personal growth through Christian Education for all ages, Confirmation, Baptism & Marriage preparation. We also support other activities. These include: Thanksgiving & Christmas food baskets ERD Opportunity Place Sharing & Caring Tools for Schools UTO Beckwith Camp & Retreat Center, and major facility repairs. Note: Your contribution to any of the above is greatly appreciated, but please remember, your contribution is in addition to your pledge. How much should I share? The minimum standard of giving the Bible sets for Christians is the tithe {i.e., 10% of your time, abilities and material possessions). St. Jude's stewardship programs promote regular giving that strives for that minimum in a manner that is proportionate to your means. The responsibility of our church support belongs in the hands of each parishioner. Questions to guide your sharing What do I want my giving to say about God? What am I doing through my giving to advance God's interests? What legacy does the level and type of my giving in time and resources leave behind? Am I growing in my giving? You have the freedom to give whatever you feel you can return in thanksgiving to God. We ask that you give a fair share of your resources to continue the work of Christ in the world and ensure that our faith is passed on to the next generation. Consider the range of pledges given for the current year (2020) and let God, through the Holy Spirit, guide you in your decision for the next year. How much treasure does St. Jude's require?
